Bible Guidance For Government

We can learn a great deal about how our government should function from the Bible. The principles contained in the Bible, if followed, will preserve and prosper a nation. We need to know that God is the key. God is the preservative for nations.

Psalms 9:17: The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.

Psalms 33:12: Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.

Psalms 144:15: Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the LORD.

2 Chronicles 7:14: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Many people believe that America is great because its people are great. America is great because God was our Lord for about 175 years. We had victory in every war because God was our Lord. After World War II America began running away from the Lord. She began believing in herself rather than in the Lord. That movement away from God actually began earlier. The movement picked up speed when we banned the Bible and prayer from the schools. Right and wrong became relative. Anti-God people began saying that America was not founded on Bible principles. Evolutionism replaced Creationism. If people believe the truth that God created them they must acknowledge that they owe Him something. They must acknowledge that He has authority over them. Many people in America do not believe that we need God to survive.

Many modern translations of the Bible began coming out in the 1950s. They have not increased America*s spirituality. They have divided and caused confusion. God confounded the language of the people so they could not build the tower of Babel. Satan has confounded and divided Christians in many areas. One powerful division is the creation of all the different translations. Christians are now pulling in different directions. America slid a long way downhill morally.

God may have been trying to teach us something in the Korean conflict. We didn*t win. A divided Korea complicates the world some five decades later. We didn*t win in Viet Nam. Our success in conflicts since the World War II has been a mixed bag. We won the cold war but seem to be losing the victory.

The Bible calls the people of Israel God*s chosen people. When they obeyed God they were blessed. When they were disobedient they were judged. When they obeyed God He handled their enemies. God did that whether Israel was strong or weak militarily. When they were disobedient God permitted their enemies in the surrounding nations to destroy many of them. God did that whether Israel was strong or weak militarily. Sometimes God used Israel*s military strength to preserve them and sometimes He intervened with miracles to preserve them.

Throughout history and throughout the world when individuals or nations obeyed God they were blessed and when they disobeyed God they were cursed. We don’t seem to have paid attention to history.

At the beginning of America, parents taught the Bible to their children. Then they hired tutors to do that. Then they created schools to do that. Teachers were qualified by their ability to teach Bible truth more than any other subject. Most of the schools have now been hijacked and no longer teach the Bible. The Bible is not taught in most of our homes either. There are efforts under way by secularists to control what is taught in the churches and to prevent the Bible from being taught on the airwaves.

God says about His people Israel that He will bless people that bless them and curse people that curse them. The most certain way for America to fall would to be to become an enemy of Israel. We don’t seem to be paying enough attention to that promise of God.

Genesis 12:3: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Psalms 122:6: Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.

When individuals and nations become anti-God they also become anti-God*s people and they are cursed.
